Getting Started
What is Directory Hunt and how does it work?
Directory Hunt is a launchpad for directories and tiny projects. Submit your directory or project, get valuable backlinks, and compete for weekly recognition. Think Product Hunt but specifically for directories and tiny projects. Your submission goes live on the homepage for 7 days (14 days for Premium) where the community can vote for it.
What information do you need for my submission?
We need the following information:
- Project name and website URL
- Short description (10-200 chars) and full description (50-3000 chars)
- Category selection and logo URL
- Contact email
- Optional: screenshots, video URL, maker details, and Twitter handle
All submissions go through a review process before going live.

Can I upgrade my Standard (free) launch to Premium?
Yes! You can upgrade your Standard launch to Premium at any time from your dashboard. When you upgrade, your submission will receive:
- Guaranteed dofollow backlink (automatic, no badge placement needed)
- Premium badge and priority placement
- Extended 14-day homepage exposure
The upgrade process allows you to select a future launch week and complete payment securely.
How long does the submission review process take?
Standard & Backlink
Typically reviewed within 24-48 hours and enter the standard queue.
Premium
Get priority review and skip the queue entirely.
All submissions must be approved by our team before going live on the homepage.
Competitions & Backlinks
How do competitions work and how do I get my dofollow backlink?
Competitions run every Monday 00:00 PST to Sunday 23:59:59 PST. All live submissions participate automatically. Top 3 by votes win dofollow backlinks and badges.
Standard & Backlink Plan winners (top 3)
- You must place the embed badge on your website within 7 days to activate the dofollow link
- We send email instructions with the badge embed code after you win
- Your link upgrades from nofollow to dofollow within 24 hours after we verify the badge
Premium plan
- Dofollow backlink is automatic — no badge placement required, no competition win needed
- Can still compete for top 3 to earn the winner badge
What happens if I don't win the weekly competition?
Your project stays listed permanently on Directory Hunt for future discovery. Standard and Backlink plans keep their nofollow link (unless they placed the badge for the Backlink Plan). Premium plans always keep their guaranteed dofollow backlink regardless of competition results.
Managing Your Submission
How does the draft system work for Premium submissions?
When you select Premium but don't complete payment, your submission is saved as a draft.
- Drafts don't count toward weekly slot limits until payment is confirmed
- You can resume drafts from your dashboard, modify details, or switch to Standard plan
- If you resubmit with the same details, old drafts are automatically replaced
Can I edit my submission after it's submitted?
Draft Submissions
You can edit draft submissions (unpaid Premium) from your dashboard.
Live Submissions
Once a submission is approved and goes live, you cannot edit it. However, you can contact us if you need to make critical updates.
What if I want to change from Premium to Standard plan?
If you have a Premium draft that hasn't been paid for, you can switch to Standard plan from your dashboard. This converts your draft to a Standard submission, removes the payment requirement, and places it in the standard review queue.
Can I track my submission's performance?
Yes! Your dashboard shows real-time data: votes, views, competition standings, submission status (draft, pending, scheduled, live, etc.), and ranking position during the competition period.
Streaks & Rewards
What are streaks and how do they work?
Streaks track your total days of voting. Every day you vote for at least one project, your streak increases by 1.
Non-Expiring Streaks
Unlike traditional streaks, your streak never expires — it's a cumulative total of all days you've voted.
How do I earn streak rewards and how do vote multipliers work?
Vote daily to build your streak. As you reach milestones, you unlock rewards including vote multipliers, discount codes, free Premium listings, and avatar borders.
Vote multipliers
Multipliers increase the impact of your votes — for example, x2 means your single vote counts as 2. They're applied automatically when you vote, and you keep the highest multiplier you've earned.

Rewards are cumulative — you keep all previous rewards as you progress.
How do I claim and use discount codes from streak rewards?
- Unlock a reward: When you reach milestone days (25, 50, or 150 days), visit the streaks page
- Claim your reward: Click the claim button to receive a unique discount code
- Use the code: Apply the code during checkout when submitting a Premium listing
Note: Discount codes are one-time use and tied to your account.
What is the streaks leaderboard?
The streaks leaderboard shows the top voters ranked by their cumulative streak. It displays user avatars, streak counts, vote multipliers, and avatar borders earned through milestones.
